TEAM FRANCE THE STRONGEST ON SATURDAY IN ALCARRAS
Alcarras (Spain) 22 October 2016 - Under cloudy but almost dry conditions in Alcarras, Team France with Thomas Chareyre, Lauren Fath and Sylvain Bidart won the qualification day on the Circuito d’Alcarras and will start from pole position before Team Czech Republic. Team Germany finished in third place.
In the morning and afternoon the free and timed practices were held at the challenging racetrack. In group one, Team France rider Thomas Chareyre set the fastest time before Pavel Kejmar from Czech Republic. The Spanish junior rider Ferran Cardus set the third time in this group. In group two it was also a Frenchman who set the fastest time. Laurent Fath set his fastest time in lap 14 of this session. Second fastest was Team Germany rider Michael Kartenberg before Team Spain rider David Gimenez. In group three Team Germany rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt was the fastest rider on the track followed by Czech rider and European champion Petr Vorlicek. Sylvain Bidart from Team France set the third time in the last timed session of the day.
RACE GROUP 1
The first qualification race in Alcarras was for group one with a lot of strong riders on the grid. Team France and 5-times World champion Thomas Chareyre took the hole shot and entered as first the tight left-hand corner, followed by Team Czech rider Pavel Kejmar and Team Spain rider Francesc Cucharrera. Team Germany rider Jan Deitenbach and Swiss rider Kevin Tschumperlin completed the top five. Chareyre took already early in the race a comfortable lead on Kejmar expanding his lead lap by lap. Cucharrera followed on place third but he had to watch his back as slowstarter Team Spain junior rider Ferran Cardus was putting in some fast lap times. On the fourth lap he managed to pass Deitenbach and moved the fourth position. Lap after lap Cardus closed the gap on his fellow countryman Cucharrera and with only one lap to go he was able to take the third position in the race. In the lead Chareyre didn’t make any mistakes and finished in first with a lead of 7.387 seconds to Kejmar who crossed the finish line in second. Behind the top two, Spanish Cardus finished in third before Cucharrera. Team Germany rider Jan Deitenbach completed the top five in this group.
Race Group 2
Team France was also the favourite for the win in group 2. The young Frenchman Lauren Fath did what was expected and took the hole shot at the start of his group before Team Spain rider David Gimenez and Team Brazil rider Rafael Fonseca. The fast Team Germany rider Michael Kartenberg had a crash at the start and had to restart at the back of the field. In the beginning of the race Gimenez and Fonseca were able to follow Fath, but after a few laps the Frenchman decided it was enough and increased his speed leaving his followers behind. Behind the top three Team Swiss rider Randy Götzl and Team Czech Republic rider Milan Sitnianky were having their own fight for the fourth position in the race. Meanwhile Team Germany rider Kartenberg was rushing through to the field after his crash and already after six laps he was at the back of Gotzl and Sitniansky. For Kartenberg it was not enough and kept on pushing forward and soon he managed to pass Sitniansky a few laps later. The battle for first position was over but for second place it just started. Team Brazil rider Fonseca was riding faster and faster each lap and in lap 11 he passed Gimenez at the back of the race track. Gotzl was also pushing hard but couldn’t get close enough to Gimenez to pass at the end. Team France rider Laurent Fath finished without problems in first, followed on 16.393 seconds by Fonseca. David Gimenez completed the top three in group two.
RACE GROUP 3
At the start of group 3 the weather conditions were changing and the sky was getting darker and darker. Team Germany
rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt entered the first corner in first position closly followed by Team France rider Sylvain Bidart and Team Czech republic rider Petr Vorlicek. Swiss rider Patrick Tellenbach and Team Spain rider Joan Llados completed the top five. From the start of the race Schmidt was pushing hard, but Bidart and Vorlicek kept on following the fast German rider. Spanish rider Llados didn’t want to waste any time as well and already in the second lap he passed Tellenbach making him fourth in the race. Halfway the race Schmidt managed to create a small gap to his two followers giving him some time to breath. Bidart on his turn didn’t take any risk as Team France already won the first two races and his second place was more than enough to the overall win on the Saturday. Behind Bidart, Czech rider Vorlicek was still in third position followed by Llados in fourth. After ten minutes in the race the first raindrops started to fall making the circumstances very tricky especially in the off-road section. As the rain was getting more and more, the race direction decided the red flag this race after a race time of 17 minutes. The red flag made Team Germany rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt the winner of the race of group three followed by Team France rider Sylvain Bidart. Czech Republic rider Petr Vorlicek completed the top three. Llados and Tellenbach finished in fourth and fifth.
With two race wins and a second place Team France won the qualification day at Circuito d’Alcarras in front of Czech Republic and Germany. -
